FIRST PENN BANK: SECURING EMPLOYEES, CUSTOMERS,
AND DOLLARS

The Challenge

First Penn Bank serves Eagle fans, historians, and everyone in between. The company has 13 branches in and around Philadelphia. Like most banks, First Penn realized that in order to provide a secure environment for employees and customers, they needed to invest in technology that would provide a complete solution to the specific issues encountered in a banking environment. These issues include potential fraud, errors, or litigation surrounding the transactions that take place at the ATMs or teller stations. Prior to 2001, First Penn had been using 35 mm cameras that would start taking pictures at the push of a button and VCR recorders with VHS tapes. Cordy Taylor, head of IT at First Penn knew that the next generation of surveillance system wasn’t going to be analog video but had to be a digital system.

The cVideo Solution

By early 2002, First Penn had implemented cVideo into all their branches providing the bank with the ability to remotely monitor operations from their command operations center. Each branch has between 6 and 12 cameras. Several of the cVideo systems are also integrated with the ATM machines, allowing First Penn staff to verify questionable ATM transactions by viewing the associated video. First Penn also uses cVideo’s network management software, NetManager. The utility allows the bank’s IT staff to remotely check the health status on the cVideo systems and deliver configuration changes and updates. Cordy Taylor recounted his reasons for deciding to use cVideo technology: “We needed a product that could adapt to our unique IT network infrastructure and a company that could tailor their software to our specific organizational needs. cVideo met both these requirements and provided us with capabilities beyond our expectations.”

The Results

The investment in the cVideo technology has paid off for First Penn in many ways. The cVideo system helped unravel numerous cases of fraud, false liability claims at the ATM and transaction errors at the teller station. Most of all, the system provides peace of mind for the management, the employees, and customers at First Penn Bank. Everyone takes comfort in knowing that there is an extra set of eyes watching their hard earned money. Future plans for First Penn include the addition of another branch, which will also be fully equipped with cVideo technology. Further, First Penn is implementing a cVideo integrated video and access system in their command operations center. The cVideo system will provide seamless integration with a new Access System to control and protect against unauthorized entry into this critical corporate infrastructure.
