M&N Enterprises: STOP THE BLEEDING

The Challenge

Mike Shearon, president of M&N Enterprises has operated three 7-Eleven® stores in San Diego and Poway since 1988. Due to dwindling profit margins in an increasingly competitive convenience store industry, Shearon was forced to thoroughly evaluate his businesses to assure long-term profitability. Despite creating an atmosphere of trust and accountability among his employees, Shearon figured that at least 1% of his monthly merchandise sales were lost to internal shrinkage. Further, Shearon or his wife had to drive from store to store, all across San Diego, on a regular basis to look after their operations. Shearon required a solution for his store that would allow him to not only address his shrinkage problem but also provide security and operational efficiencies.

The cVideo Solution

cVideo provided Shearon with a digital video system that would allow him to view his store operations from home or from one store to another. The system also integrates with the 7-Eleven® point-of-sale system to enable Shearon or his managers to review suspicious transaction events and view the corresponding video within seconds. CRB Security installed 8 cameras in each of Shearon’s stores and placed the cameras strategically to cover the register and safe area, the store floors, the back door, cooler area, and office. This way, Shearon can have his eyes on all areas of his business at any given time.

The Results

After implementing cVideo technology in all three of his franchised 7-Eleven® stores, shrink has been cut in half and sales are up despite a sputtering economy. “It’s been about three months since we’ve implemented the technology, but we’ve been overwhelmed by the capabilities it had since the second day. We’ve knocked off at least half of our shrink and our new equipment pays for itself because of what we save, plus we’re keeping a better quality employee,” says Shearon. In addition to reducing his shrinkage, Shearon was able to drastically reduce the amount of necessary store visits by being able to control his store operations remotely through the cVideo software.
